Kirsten Jones - Antique Envelopes
Letters sent in the post have a history and
have traveled from the sender to the recipient, gathering
post marks, tears and evidence of their journey along the
way. By selecting and painting on an envelope, I create a
new story and continue the journey that started when the letter
was written.
I paint and sketch memories of an object, a moment or a place,
collaging text from dictionaries and old books to inform the
narrative. Often these paintings are based on a sketch I made
whilst traveling and the objects are things I purchased in
a particular place.
Before framing the work, I place a letter inside
the envelope, which tells a part of the story of the piece.
This letter is for the buyer of the work and is a secret,
only to be read when and if the envelope is opened….
All of these pieces will be exhibited as part
of the Christmas 4 day weekend. Prices listed are for unframed
pieces. If you are interested in any of the works, please
